Precision Garage Door Service Technicians have fully stocked trucks. They carry an inventory of transmitters and receivers for all of the major brands. It is not practical to buy a one size fits all transmitter at your local home improvment store. These transmitters are very difficult to program and inspite of what the label says, they will not work with all brands of openers. Here is some information that you might find interesting.

In the last 20 years, The Liftmaster,  Chamberlin and Craftsman Brand has had 4 different lines of openers that operated at 2 different frequencies. None of the transmitters of these 4 lines of openers are interchangeable.

In the last 25 years, Genie has had 3 different lines of openers where the transmitters are not interchangeable.

In the last 10 years, Marantec has gone from 40 Megahertz to 390 Megahertz, to finally 315 Megahertz for their transmitters and receivers.  None of these are interchangeable.
