Metal Doors
Metal garage doors are the more traditional sectional doors. They are usually made in three different thicknesses. In the industry we refer to the thickness of a metal garage door using the term, gauge as the unit of measurement. The normal gauge of a metal garage door is either 26 gauge for thin material, 25 gauge for medium thickness or 24 gauge for the thickest that is used. The 24 gauge garage door is the heaviest material that is used for a residential garage door .
Metal garage doors are usually made of steel. There are some custom garage doors that use either copper, aluminum or stainless steel in their construction. All of the metal garage doors wil be manufactured in one of the 3 mailn designs. The first of these designs is the short panel pattern. On a 2 car garage door you would have 8 raised panels per section going from left to right. The second pattern is the long panel pattern. On a 2 car garage door you would have 4 raised panels per section going from left to right.. The third pattern is the flush design. On a 2 cargarage door you would not have any raised panels. Each section would be flat, going across from left to right.
There are a variety of window designs that you can choose to make your garage door unique to your home. Steel garage doors in standard sizes are normally in stock, and do not require any more lead time than a day or 2 to purchase and schedule for installation. This makes the steel garage door appealing as opposed to a custom wood garage door which usually requires a 3 to 4 week lead time.
