Safety Overview
30,000 People Annually Are Injured By Faulty Garage Door Systems
When a consumer looks at a garage door he or she sees a garage door. When an industry professional looks at a garage door what he or she sees is a moving wall. Garage doors can weigh as much as 1,000 pounds. On the average a double wide garage door weighs about 500 pounds.
Reports from the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) indicate that over 30,000 people annually are injured by faulty garage door systems. These statistics are misleading because they only count injuries that required medical attention. Many other injuries go unreported. In addition, the CPSC reports that many children between the ages of 2 & 12 have been trapped and killed under automatic garage doors.
A few simple precautions can protect your family from potential harm. Please take the time to read the following garage door safety tips.
1. Never leave a child or a disabled person alone near garage door.
2. Never let a child play with or around your garage door.
3. Never leave an automobile motorcycle or bicycle underneath an open garage door.
4. Never mount a garage door wall button within the reach of children. We recommend that it be mounted at least 5 feet above the floor.
5. Instruct your children about garage door safety.
6. Be observant that your family pet is never under an opened garage door.
7. Check the operation of your garage door monthly, to be sure that it is operating correctly. If your door is making any unusual noise or opening or closing uneven, immediately call a garage door professional for service.
8. Call Precision Door Service for an annual safety inspection.
